Not every machine I get to work on is in the first flush of youth. As an example, a recent kit fitted to a first generation JCB JS 130. The customer did not want the expense of fitting a double acting pipework (on early JS machines this costs more than the later machines as parts are missing from the main valve block) to work the hydraulic thumb attachment he wanted to use. I supplied a kit to add a diverter valve circuit to the machine bucket cylinder. When switched off the bucket cylinder circuit works as normal. When the diverter valve is switched on the bucket ram is locked and oil is diverted to work the thumb attachment using the bucket control lever to open and close the thumb.
